The Indonesian Government Signed GAVI COVAX Vaccine Form

Jakarta, AWN (09/01/21) – Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati signed Form B of the GAVI COVAX Facility with Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin to complement Indonesia’s participation in procuring 108 million doses of free vaccine. The GAVI COVAX Facility is a vaccine development collaboration between the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization (GAVI).

“Today I hope that with this signing, there will be certainty for Indonesia to get one of the sources of the vaccine, namely the one developed by the COVAX Facility and the GAVI consortium,” stated the Minister of Finance online on Thursday (07/01).

The government estimated that the provision of vaccines and vaccination programs to the public requires the 2021 State Budget to reach more than Rp73 trillion. With the free vaccine from COVAX, it can help ease the burden on the State Budget and support the procurement of vaccines and vaccination programs this year.

“The availability of the vaccine from COVAX will certainly help a lot from our budget’s ability to meet the needs of this vaccination program because this is a program that is a priority. We will give the highest priority to the budget for vaccine supply and to support the vaccination program,” said the minister.

The potential vaccine from GAVI will complement the needs of the Covid-19 vaccination program for 181 million Indonesians. Indonesia has secured a commitment of 125 million vaccines from Sinovac, 50 million doses of vaccine from AstraZeneca and 50 million doses from Novavax, bringing a total of 225 million doses of vaccine and there is still potential from Pfizer to be signed in the near future.(AWN)
